A fine food enthusiast’s dream, mushroom foraging takes place during fall time in the Zagori region. A great way to enjoy the spectacular autumnal forests.  Along with an expert mountain guide we will walk into the forests to discover edible varieties of mushrooms which thrive in the damp, cool mountain air. Returning our cosy mountain hotel we will follow a seminar and superb dinner centered around mushrooms and the local cuisine.

Day 1: Arrival in Ioannina and transfer to Monodendri or Aristi

Upon your arrival to Ioannina airport you will be greeted by our guides and transferred to your hotel (1 hour drive). Settle to your hotel and dinner.

Day 2: Mushroom Day – hiking and exploration

Today’s program is dedicated to the areas wild mushrooms. At 10.00 am we will gather and be briefed from our guides about the program. We will then embark a mini bus for our tour including hiking, mushroom identification and collection. En route we will enjoy a picnic lunch with traditional pies. The whole tour lasts about 4 hours. Around 15.30 pm we will return to the venue where for about 2 hours we will attend a seminar on cooking and preserving the mushrooms for the hotels chef. Our late llunch/early dinner will include part of what we have collected and cooked.

Day 3: Free day or optional activities – return to Ioannina

For outdoor enthusiasts we recommend a rafting descent in Voidomatis River, for wine lovers a winery tour in Zitsa
